I’ve been looking at the former lace industries in Chard as well as the infamous lace riots that took place in the 1800s.
This has led me to thinking about the material qualities of the net, how it both reveals and conceals. I’m interested in developing links both the body and the absence of the body and it’s uses in architectural coverings, curtains, clothing and the history of the town. All of these ideas have been informing the development of my ideas and installation.
I have also been looking at all the different machinery in the collections and some of the motifs of machinery – in particular the cogs – and I have been making a series of drawings to explore this further.
